Conducting an online seminar dedicated to explaining the provisions of the new Law of Ukraine “On Academic Integrity”

11 Mar 2026

On March 11, 2026, an online seminar was held at the Odesa Institute of IAPM dedicated to explaining the provisions of the new Law of Ukraine “On Academic Integrity,” which entered into force on February 1, 2026.
The speakers of the event were Alla Nerubasska, Head of the Department of General Scientific, Social and Behavioral Disciplines, Doctor of Philosophical Sciences, Associate Professor, and Daria Orlova-Sakivska, a second-year student majoring in Psychology.
During the seminar, it was emphasized that the Law will be put into effect six months after its publication — on July 31, 2026. During this period, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine must ensure the development and adoption of the necessary regulatory legal acts for its implementation, as well as bring existing documents into compliance with the new requirements and ensure the implementation of relevant changes by ministries and other central executive authorities.
In her presentation, Daria Orlova-Sakivska explained the concept of academic integrity, described modern types of its violations, and drew attention to the possibilities of using artificial intelligence technologies while adhering to the principles of academic ethics.
Alla Nerubasska presented in detail the key provisions of the new Law and explained the specifics of its practical implementation. Particular attention was paid to the new norms of responsibility for all participants in the educational process. The seminar also addressed approaches to developing a culture of academic integrity in modern Ukrainian society and the values on which it should be based.
During the discussion, specific examples were presented showing where the principles of academic integrity are already being successfully implemented, as well as identifying areas for improving internal regulatory documents necessary for the full implementation of the Law’s provisions within the legal and ethical framework.
The new Law aims to establish a systematic approach to ensuring the quality of education and science, increase trust in research results, and support Ukraine’s integration into the European educational and scientific space.
It is expected that the implementation of the new norms will promote the development of a culture of academic responsibility, transparency in scientific research, and the ethical use of modern technologies, particularly artificial intelligence.
Holding such seminars is an important step in familiarizing teachers and students with new legislative norms that contribute to the development of a culture of academic integrity, enhance the reputation of Ukrainian education, and strengthen the professional image of educators.
