National-patriotic education of children and youth is a complex, systematic and purposeful activity of state authorities, public organizations, families, educational institutions, and other social institutions for the formation of a high patriotic consciousness, a sense of loyalty, love for the Motherland, concern for the welfare of the young generation of its people, readiness to fulfill the civil and constitutional duty to protect the national interests, integrity, independence of Ukraine, and to promote its establishment as a legal, democratic, and social state. The most important priority of national-patriotic education is the formation of a valuable attitude of the individual towards the Ukrainian people, the Motherland, the state, and the nation.The goal of patriotic education is specified through a system of the following educational tasks:
- affirmation of patriotic values, beliefs and respect for the cultural and historical past of Ukraine in the consciousness and feelings of the individual;
- fostering respect for the Constitution of Ukraine, Laws of Ukraine, state symbols;
- increasing the prestige of military service, and hence - cultivating the attitude towards the soldier as a defender of the homeland, a hero;
- awareness of the relationship between individual freedom, human rights and patriotic responsibility;
- promoting the acquisition of patriotic experience by children and youth on the basis of readiness to participate in state-building processes, the ability to determine the forms and methods of their participation in the life of civil society, communicate with social institutions, authorities, the ability to comply with laws and protect human rights, readiness to take responsibility , the ability to resolve conflicts in accordance with democratic principles;
- formation of a tolerant attitude towards other peoples, cultures and traditions;
- affirmation of humanistic morality as the basic foundation of civil society;
- cultivation of the best features of the Ukrainian mentality - hard work, freedom, justice, kindness, honesty, careful attitude to nature;
- formation of speech culture;
- encouraging a growing individual to actively oppose Ukrainianophobia, immorality, separatism, chauvinism, fascism.
